ICATS, Industrial Coting Applicator Training Scheme, ‘a journey of quality’

In this paper the author will highlight the importance of training, in particular for Industrial Coating Applicators. By describing his own professional experience in the United Kingdom (UK) the author will take readers through a journey of discovery.

The journey will cover the direct impact that training has on professionals, customers, and the industry as a whole. It will highlight the Health and Safety aspects of industrial paint work. A particularly important part of the work is the identification of the hazards and preparation of a risk assessment to protect themselves and others. The journey milestone with the creation of ICATS (Industrial Coating Applicator Scheme) by the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr). The recognition by the UK industry of the importance of using trained professionals cannot be overstated.

It has proven to prevent incidents, delays and will ensure the coatings will provide the performance they were designed to deliver.
